Lovie, Bearcat Make Season Debut and Stevo on the IR

The Lime Green Gay Packers: The Rake, Lovie, Killer, Matador, Chevy, Ogie and Bearcat
The White Hairy Bears: Chico, Razor, Snowpants, Rocky, Sparky, Hurricane, and the Turk
Black Bum Raiders: Doc, Soupy, Falcon, Spinner, Hollywood, Cribzie and La Bamba

Energetic hockey at the Kapusta Kow Palace as the Lime Green Gay Packers beat the White Hairy Bears out in the Championship. The Packers, finished with 3 wins and one loss for 6 points and a plus 8. The Hairy Bears came in with 4 points and a minus 1 and the Bum Raiders, 2 points and a minus 6. In the final game, the Packers were coming in with the same points as the Bears but were a plus 5 and the Bears were a plus 1. A tie would not do it for the Bears. “I thought I picked a team that could compete and we did,” indicated triumphant Team Captain the Rake.

It was great to see Lovie and Bearcat out for the first time this year. Lovie, due to hectic schedule, finally came out to play and Bearcat, who had been fighting off injuries was able to don the pads and make a few saves. “I want to play in the tournament this year, so I need to hone by skills,” an enthusiastic Bearcat indicated.

The three stars, as selected by La Bamba, 3) Snowpants 2) Bearcat 1) Chevy. Chevy notched a career high 8 goals on the night.

For the first time (not including when Stevo had knee surgery), Stevo was not in the lineup due to an injury. What is being described as a ‘lower body injury’ (believed to be the left knee), Stevo sat out and watched the game from the press box (Working the clock and sitting on stage). “In the first week of hockey, Rocky did not play due to a nagging Achilles and he came out, worked the clock and I thought, I should do that too,” Stevo indicated and then added, “It was a different perspective from not being in the game, to be there but not be involved with a team.”  Next year will be Stevo’s first as only a player and not the President, some lucky Tomcat will be taking over the reigns and Stevo will be there only as an advisor.

The Lime Green Gay Packers. Offensive Line "Blue 42, Blue 42....."

The Lime Green Gay Packers. Offensive Line “Blue 42, Blue 42…..”

It is being reported that an email has gone out to All Tomcats present and past, in regards to the November 29 Tomcat Christmas Party, that should not be confused with the December 17 Tomcat Christmas Party. True, both are Christmas parties, but one is for spouses and significant others (Nov.29) and the other is just for Tomcats (Dec 17 after hockey).  Zaba will be taking over the Minister of Pizza role on that day as the Turk is in Cuba on a scouting mission. “They find pitchers and short stops in Cuba for baseball, the Tomcats felt that maybe I could find a hockey player or two in Cuba, if not, then I can just check out the talent on the beach,” a smiling Turk indicated.

Next week, only La Bamba, Crow, Skippy and Zaba are not there, so if you know you can’t play, let Stevo know, he hopes to be in the lineup.

Tomcats will decided next week if any of the Show Case players will get another look. Tunes only came out the one time and it seems that he will get another ‘look-see’, from all accounts.

A solid by Killer, was suppose to bring a 12 but brought a 24 of MGD, ‘Just Because.”  Yippy Yah Yay Mother Tucker and what???  Yes sir ree, it makes the Tomcat world go round and round.

Whilst you were admiring the offensive line and there was a ‘Coach’s Challenge’ and yet another delay on the football field, and you wait and wait and wait, could I put my Harry Ballsonue.

“Last season we couldn’t win at home and we were losing on the road. My failure was that I couldn’t think of any place else to play.”
–Harry Neale

White Gila Monsters: Falcon, Chevy, Soupy, Snowpants, Killer, Rocky, Hollywood and Chico
Black Lizards: Razor, Sunny, La Bamba, Matador, Rake, Hurricane, Turk, Sheep Dog and Stevo

Another fantastic night of hockey at the Kapusta Kow Palace, with the White Gila Monsters taking it, 8-5 and 10-8 and thus the quote from Harry Neale (See above) as that could very easily apply to the Black Lizards last night. “We had a hell of a time scoring a goal” indicated La Bamba, then added, “we had our chances, don’t get me wrong, but we just could not capitilze, Flacon palyed great, he was like Patrick Roy of old in the net.” La Bamba concluded.
Snowpants was on fire for the Gila Monsters as well, notching a few key goals. “I think our whole team played very well tonight”, stated Snowpants, “I’m very proud of how we did out there tonight”.

The teams were made by Sunny last night. “I felt the teams were very fair and even”, stated Sunny.

It was fan appreciation night last night at the Kapusta Kow and Sally Schneider of Puce Ontario, won the Contest to meet Sunny, The Rake and Killer.”I could not believe it when they (Tomcats) called”. stated a shaking Shneider, “Sunny is my favourite and the other two, well, I can’t stop thinking about them”. stated a totally excited Schneider and then added, “this may very well be the best day of my life” Schneider concluded.

Lucky fan Sally Schneider of Puce Ontario won the 'Meet the Tomcats' Contest. "I just can't believe I got to meet Sunny... wow," Schneider said.

Lucky fan Sally Schneider of Puce Ontario won the ‘Meet the
Tomcats’ Contest. “I just can’t believe I got to meet Sunny…
wow,” Schneider said.

Soupy was also impressive for the Gila Monsters,  with his accurate shots on net, his passing, his weaving and stick handling but most impressive when it came to some yoga moves as he was trying to get the ball, “yeah, it’s something I have been working on, it’s new, two exercises in one, yoga and floor hockey” indicated a smiling Soupy.

For the Black Lizards Stevo ended up playing but you could see he was a step behind in most of the play. The Matador a competitor, did well by notching a few goals for the Lizards and I thought, the Hurricane had one of his best nights ever, even though he was only on the score sheet a few times. “Sometimes it’s not what is on the score sheet that counts”, stated, The Turk. The Hurricane played tough in the corners and created some excelllent scoring chances.

A classy move by Snowpants, with the goalie pulled in game two, and the Gila Monsters up 10-8, and 36 secondls left on the clock, Snowpants had a chance to score an empty netter, but dished it off to the side. Now that is Sportsmanship.

A solid performed by Chevy last night, he was to bring a 12 but instead, brought a 24 MGD. ‘Just because’. That’s what makes the Tomcat world go round and round.

Hockey next week, only Bulldog and Sunny are out and Zaba remains on the IR and Bearcat will make his goaltending season debut, you don’t want to miss that!

Next week, just watch the slap shots. None this past week, but, it inches closer and closer.

Hey Sally Schneider of Puce Ontario, can I put my Harry Ballsonue.

Beer Bringers: Hurricane (24) Chevy (12)
Net Minders: Razor, Falcon, Hollywood
Captains: Rocky, Cribz and Jingles
In The Line Up: Rake, Rocky, Turk, Chevy, Jingles, Sunny, Mez, Soupy, Killer, Snowpants, Hurricane, the Matador, Chico, LaBamba
Show Case Players: (Last Week for them showcasing) Sheep Dog, Kamakazie
Out of the Line Up: Skippy, Bulldog, Sparky, Doc, Cribz, Lovie and Spinner
I.R.: Zaba, Stevo
Unsure…most likely not: Junior, Bubbles
Skinny: Killer makes his season debut! If Junior comes out, he will too. In a perfect world, if we actually had everyone come out that is suppose to come out this coming Tuesday we would have a Mini Tournament and there would be 3 spares aside. Will that happen? No…cancellations will start come Monday and trickle into Tuesday. But…as it sits right now Rocky, Matador and Snowpants will be the three Captains of the Mini.

Stevo: Although, Stevo is unable to play, he will still attend. You can get a hold of him if you need to cancel.

Black Hawks Take it…7-7, 10-4

Black Hawks: Chico, Soupy, Chevy, Matador, Tunes, Jingles, Hurricane and Sparky
White Eagles: Hollywood, Spinner, Snowpants, Cribzie, the Rake, Kamikaze, Stevo and Sunny

Barry Manilow wrote the words, “I write the words that make the whole world cry”, well every week, I write the blogs and I have to (at least I think I do) I have to come up with a catchy title. Like “Here to play, Finner, Spinner and Killer” or “No Malarkey it was Sparky”. It does not make the world cry…but I hope it at least gets you, the reader interested, as in ‘oh my, what’s this article going to be about’? So last week, I’m on a news web site and I see the title, “Man cuts off testicles , delays wedding”. How do I get compete with that? I can’t so headline is simple, Black Hawks take it, which they did. “I think we blew our load in the first game, when we came back from a 7-2 deficit” indicated Sunny, “We just did not have what it took to win the second game” Sunny concluded. That is a fact, the Black Hawks were up 6-1 and 7-2 at one time and the White Eagles screamed back to tie the game up with 11 seconds on the clock, after they pulled their goalie.

The Black Hawks vowed revenge and got it, by putting the boots to the White Eagles beating them handsomely in the second game 10-4.
The Black Hawks, had the stronger team and showed their puck moving ability. The White Eagles seemed to have difficulty getting the ball out of their own end and gave the ball away on countless occasions.

Hurricane had a good night for the Black Hawks, scoring some timely goals. New comer (show case player) Tunes, did very well, with his orange socks, scoring 5 on the night to help seal the deal for the Black Hawks.

Hurricane and Hunter ....a proud grandpa and a proud Grandson of Granpa for netting a few goals.

Hurricane and Hunter ….a proud grandpa and a proud Grandson of Granpa for netting a few goals.

Stellar net minding was also witnessed, as Chico put on a goaltending clinic, making save after save after save. “Cheeks was awesome tonight” stated Chevy, “goaltending wins you games” Chevy further added. It has been said before, any supreme athlete needs three things to be a superstar, Talent, Strippers and Speed. The Blackhawks had supreme athletes on their team and that assisted them with convincing wins.

Chico played some tremendous hockey for the Black Hawks. "Cheeks was on fire, he is moving up the goalie depth chart within the Tomcat organization," said Sparky.

Chico played some tremendous hockey for the Black Hawks. “Cheeks was on fire, he is moving up the goalie depth chart within the Tomcat organization,” said Sparky.

Stevo, seemed to suffer some sort of injury (lower body) but team doctors and coaching staff are saying it is nothing and that the trusty steed will be back next week. He was seen icing his right knee after the game . Others, close to the situation are saying, don’t expect to see him in the line up anytime soon .

Plans are being made for the second ever, Tomcat Christmas Party. it will be held on Friday November 29 at Rock Bottom upstairs. The cost has not been determined, but, if you have a red marker, circle that date on your calendar and get a sitter if you need one, cuz you want to attend this event.

Solid move by the Kamikaze for bringing a 12 of Coors tall boys, you know management will give him a few more Tuesday nights.

Only a few cancellations next week, and the three show case players get to come out, one more time, so be on the ready.

Just a reminder, that on Tuesday nights, please bring a black tee shirt and a white tee shirt, no gray. Black and white.

Hey, Whilst that man had cut his testicles off, I could perhaps put my Harry Ballsonoue.

White Soupy Gnats: Soupy, Crow, Cribzie, Matador, Razor, Sheep Dog, Doc and Mez
Green Stevo Hornets: Stevo, Spinner, La Bamba, Hurricane, Bubbles, Yuri andHollywood
Black Chevy Flies: Chevy, Rocky, Snowpants, Jingles, Sparky, Falcon and The Kamikaze

Very exciting hockey at the Kapusta Kow…as the White Gnats took the Mini. with 2 wins, and 2 ties, for 6 points. The Green Hornets, came in second with 5 points and the Black Chevy Flies totaled one point on the night with one tie. The interesting part was, that the Green Hornets were the oldest team on the floor, with Yuri and Hurricane at 55, Stevo at 54. La Bamba at 51, Bubbles at 49, Spinner 47 and the baby of the crowd, Hollywood at the tender age of 40.

The three star selection, as selected by La Bamba, 3) Bubbles, 2) Razor (# 2) and the first star, 1) Crow.

Although Crow played like a little water bug, both Razor and Bubbles had great games too. “I think Crow scored every goal for us, except for two” Indicated Team Captain Soupy.

It was exciting Tomcat hockey and the biggest interest was the long hair of Hurricane. “I’m growing it out a bit’ Hurricane said, “The hair flows, as I run down the Kapusta Kow floor” he concluded. Chevy, who is a big fan of Hurricane and Hurricane is his mentor, indicated “I may grow mine out too, now that I see my mentor has it long.”

Two new faces in the line up tonight as a show case included the Sheep Dog and the Kamikaze. They both played a solid game on defense and with one week under their belts, should even do better next week. And speaking of next week……..Next Tuesday, October 8, the Windsor Tomcats will be show casing 2 more new faces at the Kapusta Kow Palace…Yes, the word on the street is that there might be a mini and that conceivably there might be 4 spares a side on three teams….maybe…. more like one spare a side.

Please show the kind courtesy that you would like to be shown, if it was you showing up for your first time.

One question asked from the crowd, “Why now Stevo?” and to answer that, Stevo says, ‘if not now, then when’? Stevo’s thinking is, to get it done and over with. Let these new guys try it out, see if they are any good and see if they themselves like it. There are intangibles. You maybe a shitty player, but if one of them brings out a 12 pack on that night, well then, who gets called up first. Hmmmmm, interesting. It’s how the Tomcats think….and interestingly enough, the Sheep Dog, showed up with a 12 pack of MGD, so you know he will be getting a few more Tuesdays.

One other thing that Stevo is asking is that, some guys let these guys use your spare stick. Tomcats don’t expect them to go out a buy a junior stick and then never to be called again. They should have a pair of hockey gloves, so really the only thing that they will need is a stick to use, in not, hockey gloves will be provided as well. The Tomcats are a Benevolent bunch.

The four Captains for the tournament, Lovie, Jingles. Snowpants and Stevo should all make a point of being there on that night, in case these players make it into the draft.

The four anticipated ‘Show Cases’ for next week are, ‘Sheepdog’ , ‘Kamikaze’ , (already played last week) and ‘Tunes’ and “Misty Malone”. (Real names to be provided on stage).  All four have been invited and as far as the Windsor Tomcats know and are concerned, all four plan on attending.

I would like to leave you with a Fred Shero quote, “When you have bacon and eggs for breakfast, the chicken makes a contribution, the pig makes a commitment.”

Tomcats held their annual NHL Hockey draft and a very good turn out participated. That is a team effort..and what the Tomcats are all about.

A super solid by Crow, as he brings a 24 of Bud Lite..’just because’ and a solid on new comer Sheep Dog, who brought a 12 of MGD ‘just because’. Greatjob fellas, know that it is very appreciated by the Tomcats. “Knowing what I know, “indicated Doc, “that 12 that Sheep Dog brought, will go a long way, don’t be surprised if you see the Sheep Dog, not just next week, but a few other Tuesday’s here and there” Doc concluded.

During the NHL Tomcat Hockey Draft, did you notice that I put my Harry Ballsoune.

What the Tomcats know for October 1…by Management

Posted by 81rocky on September 27, 2013

Bringers of the Beer: Sparky (24) Falcon (12) Tomcats (12)
Net Minders: Razor, Falcon, Chico
In the Line Up: Sparky, Rocky, Cribzie, Hollywood, La Bamba, Lovie, Chevy, Spinner, Jingles, The Turk, Sunny, Mez, Soupy, Snowpants, Hurricane, Stevo, and the Matador.
Not sure, but the thinking if they will be there: Crow, Junior
Out of the Line Up: The Rake, Bulldog, Killer, Skippy
On Injured Reserve: Zaba (but possibly looking at making a pre game skate and seeing how it feels)

St. Felix: The November issue of the St. Felix will be out Sunday September 29, so please take the time to review it.

NHL Hockey Draft: Lovie and Hollywood are organizing this year’s draft, Lovie is to provide lists, draft tips and pencils/pens and asks that the participants, only bring their ‘personalities’. Would love to see lots of the guys in it this year. It’s only $11 dollars!

Skinny: if it goes the way it is right now, then we have a MINI, but we have been saying that the last two weeks, and that has not been the case. BUT , since it is an NHL Hockey Draft night….and some players are returning from Europe (La Bamba and Hurricane) anything is possible. If Crow and Junior come out, two teams would have three spares and one team 2 spares. If Crow and Junior do not come out, three teams would have two spares. If Zaba plays……well you see, it is not an exact science.

Tomcats Forever!

Week Two, Awesome Hockey for You!

By Harry Ballsonue

White Eagles: Falcon, Soupy, Cribzie, Snowpants, Chico, the Turk, Hollywood, Mez and Chevy
Black Falcons: Razor, Sunny, Doc, Rake, Sparky, Bulldog, Spinner, Stevo and Rocky

Week two was just as impressive as weak one, only this time, Razor (and not taking anything away from Falcon) stole the show. Razor may have had three to four highlight reel saves just in game one. Outstanding work on Razors part, and with Razor standing on his head and spitting out Cuban cigars, the Black Falcons took both games, 8-3 and 7-6. Now let me mention that the first game, even though it was 8-3, the score is not indicative of how the play went. Razor robbed Chevy on a few point blank shots, flashing the glove and catching the ball, as if he knew it was going there.

Another factor, is the soon to retire from the Tomcats as President, Stevo, who notched 6 goals on the night. Other huge goals came from Spinner, Stevo’s playing partner for the last 10 years.

“With Spinner, Sparky, Stevo and Sunny, (the four S’s) it was like playing the 1972 Russia team. The passing was incredible, you could not help but be a fan of the game and watch the passes and hell, I was the goalie they were shooting on,” indicated the Falcon.

One very interesting part on the night, was that many beers were left over, “The Tomcats don’t seem to be drinking as much” stated a disappointed Sparky, “Maybe it is still early in the season, but I hope they pick it up a bit.”

Sad state of affairs, the hockey is great, but the beer drinking has fallen down a bit. 22 beers left behind.

Sad state of affairs, the hockey is great, but the beer drinking has fallen down a bit. 22 beers left behind.

Cribzie on the games, “The three of them, Spinner, Sunny and Stevo, played very well together. Very frustrating playing against Gretzky, Crosby and Stamkos”.

Next week, La Bamba makes a season debut and the hockey should be a good as it was this past Wednesday, because they are Tomcats and they all know how to play the game…maybe not drink like they use to, but play the game they do know how.

Just a reminder, that next week, Tuesday October 1 the Tomcats will hold their draft for the NHL hockey pool (regular season) The cost is only $11 and everyone is welcome to participate.

One solid was that Rocky, who does not drink, brought out an 18 of MGD for the boys to enjoy. “That’s leadership”, stated The Mez, and then added, “Leadership is an action, not a position.”

Hey whilst you were watching the pretty passes, from Sunny to Spinner, to Stevo, to Spinner to Sunny to Stevo, to Sunny to Spinner, I put my Harry Ballsonue.

Rebounds, Rivalries and Redonkulous Saves (Harry Palm Press):

You would have never known there was a thing called a summer break with how the first game of the season started out; a raucous 40 minutes of hockey that  featured a close 7-6  score for the victorious White River Dogs.  It was almost like hockey had never ended for many a Tomcats player, and both goalies played exceptionally well.  The second game saw the Black Wolves take it 4-2.

When I first arrived in the parking lot of the Kapusta I knew the night was going to be special, particularly after spying a car full of elderly ladies who were sitting knitting patiently near the players entrance door.  Upon striking up a conversation with the ladies they excitedly stated they were waiting for Snowpants. Ethel the groups spokesperson commented, “I saw a picture of Snowpants from last years Christmas party – the one in which he was sporting those sexy leather pants.  When I shared the photo with my group all the ladies agreed he was super yummy, and we all swore an allegiance to be Tomcats fans”.  As I watched I can’t say for certain, but it certainly looked like the ladies were working on some kind of knitted lingerie; maybe to pass along upon completion to their favourite player as fan keepsake?

The ladies weren’t disappointed…. in the second  game Snowpants proved his worth and assited the Black Wolves to a gritty 4-2 win.  The game was really put away in the last 30 seconds with the Black Wolves up 3-2 and Snowy assisting on an empty netter that was scored by Sunny.  After 80 minutes of hockey neither team could claim ultimate superiority, considering each team took a game.  Doc with the Black Wolves may disagree particularly after he pointed out his hard work on the night was finally rewarded with a hard fought goal.  Matador of the White River Dogs begrudgingly mumbled Doc may have gotten the better of him on a skirmish in the corner; but he was also quick to remind me of his great up close goal.  Rewinding the tapes it was nice to see both players had been rewarded on what was a well battled first night of hockey.

Players may have also been very relieved to have played a regular start to the season instead of a mini tournament; and it was the lack of a mini tourny start to the season I found most interesting.  I figured every Tomcat would have been out in full force.  Notably absent was Beep,  as we know from the St. Felix article, Beep secured a lucrative promotion in the civilian field which will affect his playing time this year and his skill set will be greatly missed on the Kapusta Kow Floor.

Speaking of players, I can’t help but note in 80 minutes – 80 MINUTES of play, both goaltenders only allowed 9 goals apiece.  That’s a mere goal every 8.8 minutes; and it was really the second game in which the goalies took over; because after 40 minutes the score was a measly 4-2.  The fourth goal being an empty netter.  Regardless neither tender was able to clearly dominate the other as both made redonkulous saves that are liklely to be featured on top 10 countdowns nation wide.

The night ended on an  high note as Stevo provided each player present with a 25th year personlized Tomcat program.  It was one of the first times I ever heard it so quiet on the stage after a game as each player was engrossed with reading of Tomcat stars from yesterday; along with checkingout their own bios of course!  I can only imagine what week 2 will bring and until Tuesday rolls around; Ethel – Yurri HANDZONMECAC (Sorry Snowpants – she’s frisky!)

Tomcats Start Off The Season with Reason

White River Dogs: Falcon, Sparky, Cribzie, Stevo, Spinner, Matador and Chico
Black Wolves: Rake, Hollywood, Doc, Bulldog, Sunny, Snowpants, Soupy and Skippy

Fine: Killer, no call, no show = $5.00

It’s not everyday you start off the hockey season saying it is your 25th year, but that was the case last night at the Kapusta Kow Palace as the White River Dogs faced the Black Wolves in a tilt that would make you think they had been playing for a few weeks now.  The weather was very favourable to the Tomcats as it was not 95 degrees out, as it was last Tuesday. (the Tomcats know when to start the season off) and from all accounts, it looks like another fine season as started. The pace was fast and the action fierce.

A very nice  gesture, by Snowpants and the boys, who honoured Hollywood’s and Stevo’s dad, with a moment of silence before hockey started, I’m sure Myron’s boys will miss him dearly. Myron was watching from above as both his boys scored goals in the games.

Team White came back from a 6-4 deficit to win the first game 7-6.  Then with a strong performance by Snowpants and Skippy the Black Wolves won the second game 4-2, with an empty net being scored with 5 seconds left on the clock.

Both good games and the fans loved the action.

Snowpants wears hockey pants to hockey…
"from Snowpants to Hockey Pants, he is one of a kind (still nicknamed Snowpants by the way)!

“from Snowpants to Hockey Pants, he is one of a kind (still nicknamed Snowpants by the way)!

Special Tomcat Programs were handed out last night as well, if you get a chance to get one, I say get one! They are beautifully done, with several franchise players on the front and a happy Hollywood holding up the Stanley’s Cup on the back page. Photos from many years of the Tomcats lives and each individual Tomcat is mentioned in he book with a little ‘Skinny’ about the player. Some great insight by Cribzie can be read and some super thoughts by Lovie can also be looked at, as he makes 6 points of what life is like as a Tomcat.  You will even find the words to “Tomcats Forever” in this all ages booklet.

Stevo reminded me, to remind you, to let him know if you cannot make it on a certain week.  The more notice you give, the better it is for everyone within the organization. If you don’t call or text or email, and don’t show up, $5 dollar fine to you!

Hey, whilst you are pursuing the Tomcat Program, do you mind if I put my Harry Ballsonue….
