Hockey was a bit chippy, guys need to remember that we are all friends and that if you hack someone or do something stupid, it only looks bad on you.  There is no reason for body work, there is no need for hacking and wacking.  Goalies were hacked a few times last night and some ‘pulling at the ball’ while the goalie has it will not be tolerated. They will be called out!

Soupy scored a goal with his head, that was allowed, but looking at the league rules, head Referee the Bundura indicated “it seems to me that if a player were to make a distinctive motion with their head directing the puck into the net, the goal would be disallowed. However, if the puck deflects off the player’s head, and there is no distinctive motion, it’s a good goal.” In the case of Soupy he used a distinctive motion to put the ball into the net with his head.
The league head office was contacted after the game, “Say for example there’s a shot from the point, the goaltender gets a piece of it sending it spinning up into the air in the scramble in the crease one player spots the dropping puck and uses his head to direct it over the line. Would this count as a goal or do the same rules apply to the head as do hands and feet, that you cannot intentionally direct the puck over the line with anything other than the stick,” said the League Spokesman.

The Last Night of hockey is next week, April 17, food night, make sure you come out for that night as Chef Rake will be making a speciality sandwich with a side dish, you really do not want to miss it.

Board of Directors meeting is Tuesday May 1, please let Rocky know if you are attending.

Friday June 2, the Turk is hosting the Kapusta Open, it is a four man scramble, played at Ambassador.  Tickets for the golf game, dinner are only $110. The prize table is out of this world and so is the food. It is a fantastic event, it is a Saturday, come out and support the Turk in his golf outing.

Tomcat golf tournament is Friday June 15 at Sutton Creek. Tee off times will start  at 10 a.m.. Let Snowpants know that you are interested and he will try to assist you in the foursome that you want to play in. Cost and such being worked on, but you are looking at anywhere between $42-$45 dollars for golf and a cart.

IF YOU CANNOT PLAY next week, why not shoot Stevo a text right now. As it stands now, there are 27 players playing.  That means 8 players per team and a goalie.  This what the Tomcat Organization knows right now, with the only question mark Cribzie and Chico….

Hockey starts at 6:30 Tuesday April 17. After that there is no more hockey till September.

For those wondering, Yes Skuz brought his beer last night.  Both he and the Matador will remain in the organization.
Thanks to those who helped put away all the tables at the start of the night.  Tomcat spirit was alive as everyone chipped in to help.

And in ending,  the Tomcat Members of Ghost Crossing would like to sincerely thank each and every Tomcat for coming out to the Lions Head to support the band.  “It really means a lot to us, from the bottom of our hearts, thanks so much for coming out, having a beer and cheering us on.  Thanks to the Tomcat Brothers and Sisters (Wives), just goes to show, that the Tomcat brotherhood is alive and well,” stated Stevo.

Thanks to the boys, Soupy, Sheep Dog, Kamikaze, Doc and Sparky for brining out the beer empties. Special thanks to Sparky who takes them in and does the return.

Congratulations to Soupy on his first ever ‘Team Making”. Great Job Soupy. “When I was a young child man growing up in Petrolia, making subs and pizza and Gyros, I watched the Tomcats on TV on Tuesday nights, wishing praying, that one day I could be a Tomcat, now, not only do I play for them, I am making up teams, see kids, if you believe in yourself, believe in your dreams, anything can happen,” Stated a proud Soupy.

The Last Night of hockey is April 17, food night, make sure you come out for that night as Chef Rake will be making a speciality sandwich with a side dish, you really do not want to miss it.

Board of Directors meeting is Tuesday May 1, please let Rocky know if you are attending.

Hockey starts at 6:30 Tuesday April 3. After that there is only April 10 and 17 left after that.

Skuz owes a case of beer from two weeks ago, Matador, who is the minister of Beverages and Ice, will be having a word with Mr. Skuz about brining his beer to hockey.

And in ending, Snowpants gets great credit for going downstairs and getting ice for the beer. The cooler sat for one game with no ice on it, then there was discussion about 15 minute periods or 17 for the second game, 17 was selected to which La Bamba said, “This way more time for the ice to chill the beer”. That my friend is management material.

Do you recognize the ‘weapon’ that felled the Tomcats former President and marquee player? If we were playing ‘Clue’ you may have found it in on the Kapusta Kow Palace Tuesday night wielded by a VERY unlikely suspect/player……

Funny thing I’ve noticed over the years of covering Tomcats hockey – it often seems that first game back to ‘regular’ play after the ‘Stanley’s Cup’ Tournament has several players missing. I reason it has to do with the players going all out at the tourny and simply needing a week to recover. What this typically means for play after the tournament is you’re likely to get an old fashioned Two team game played with a few spares a side.

This Tuesday was no exception and I think each bench had 3 spares a side. Also funny is how you’ll see players come out of the woodwork and play whom are naturally seen in other positions. Case in point – Skippy visited and actually played out as a defenseman. Rumour has it he reached out to Stevo (Who is still covering for an injured Rocky) looking to play net. On this night the Tomcats already had 2 tenders prepared to go and Management based their decision on attendance; of which Skippy’s has been spotty at best this season. Skippy expressed a desire to still want to come out and of course Stevo agreed. More interesting is upon seeing Skippy dressed to play out Falcon was heard muttering he would have likely taken the night off had the opportunity been known to him….

History will show Skippy has played out on maybe 2 other occasions in his entire Tomcat career; first trying a forward position before realizing defence may be a better fit. More surprising is he actually had a decent night – blocking a few shots and making good passing decisions. Alas it would all come crashing down in the second game…

First; let’s look at those games with the traditional Black verse White. Black had the steller scoring trio of Soupy, Chevy and Sunny – which is likely why they won the first game handily 11-5. I mean watching the game tape it was near cringe worthy to see Sunny and Soupy carve thru defensemen single handily and score. Even better was watching the highlight reel of passing and scoring between Soupy and Chevy.

White, consisting of scoring threats Matador, Snowpants and Slim Jim responded in the second game and with about 9 or so minutes left were up 6-5 – a drastic reversal of play for the team and players. It was like they transformed into a new team, intent on showing that first game was a fluke.

Here’s where that ‘killer stick’ comes in. Skippy was alone near his goalie and Slim Jim made a beautiful pass to a wide open Stevo. Stevo started his highlight reel dekes on poor Terror when out of nowhere Skippy lays out in a defensive desperation attempt to catch Stevo and…….DOWN goes Stevo. That’s right folks – the unassuming Skippy nearly ended the playing career of the most coveted player in Tomcats history. Understandably the entire sellout crowd and all players aside held their collective breaths as poor Stevo was assisted to the bench. In a true leader moment Matador called the game; later stating, ‘When your Captain goes down; is in pain; and has to sit it out – the entire team goes down’.

As Stevo sat on the stage icing a knee and was asked about the incident he replied, ‘Well, I guess I wasn’t meant to go dancing tomorrow’. When asked about Skippy playing out Stevo responded; ‘He’ll play in net next time for sure’. Few other players said anything. I spoke to Crcibzie sitting nearby who said, ‘We all saw it – I think Skippy needed to let Stevo finish that move – He had a breakaway’.

When questioned Skippy was at a loss for words and simply stated, ‘I’m confident I made contact with the ball first – I think Stevo didn’t see me there and wound up falling over my body’. ‘I reacted to the play without thought – and I’m sure Stevo knows it was not intentional at all’. ‘On a side note – did anyone mention I did bring out a 12 pack for the boys?’.

I don’t think players or fans question the act as being intentional or purposeful; I actually saw Skippy hugging it out with Stevo afterwards. The status of either player is currently unknown; but rumour has It Skippy will likely miss the next several weeks with a bruised rib. Stevo’s status is less clear and fans the world over will be counting the days down till next Tuesday to see if he returns. The league so far has remained mum on any sanctions being considered against Skippy as it is understood the play is still being reviewed. My money is on Skippy not returning to play defense anytime soon – no fines will be levied and both players in time will return to play.

While you are thinking, ‘Are you sure Skippy killed the President’; I noticed Yurri HANDZONMECAC.
