I got to tell you, hockey was fantastic, great plays, great passes, great goals and some fantastic net minding.  The players play fair and you don’t see any hacking and wacking and even though guys take it seriously, you can see there is no one trying out for an NHL team. “I think hockey has been great for a great number of weeks”, stated Cribzie and added, “Maybe the first few weeks were a bit intense, but I have to tell you, it is a joy to play on Tuesday night”. Cribzie concluded. There was even a ‘Hurricane Blows……Chevy’ yelled out by the Doc Thumb Torture.

Best part of the night is the 23 guys sitting on the stage and enjoying a cold pop.

The Sparky Dragons won the mini.

18 days to the tournament and everyone seems to be mindful of it, working hard to make the nice plays but nothing drastic where shins are being hacked.

Tournament on February 27 starts at 8:30 a.m.  First two games to be played and then full Tomcat Team picture, Stevo’s favourite time of the year the full Tomcat Team Photo). Get a hair cut, don the new Tomcat Tee shirt and smile smile smile.

FIRST TIME EVER

For the First time ever in Tomcat History, during a three team mini tournament, unplanned and totally by accident, the three goalies matched up with jersey colours of their own team. “It is unheard of”, stated Sparky a  Captain of one of the teams The Sparky Dragons, “I don’t know what to do here, do you go out and buy a lottery ticket or do you go to the Casino, a strip joint, what? I am glad that the Tomcat media relations people noticed and took pictures of the three teams.” Concluded Sparky.

REMINDER

Each Tournament Captain is obligated to buy a round of drinks for his own team back at Purples. Pizza will be served at 4p.m. at Purples, cost is only $10 payable to the Turk, so please consider participating and keep enjoying the Tomcat Brethren for another hour or so back at Purples. La Bamba in his second life, out side of hockey is also a Juke Box Repair man, here (below) you can see him working a machine so he can get it to play Lionel Ritchies ‘Hello’ and MIlli Vanilli’s ‘Girl You Know It’s True’. His two favourite songs in the whole wide world.

EMPTIES REMOVAL NIGHT Has been changed to Tuesday Feb 16, (yes that is next week) If you can be at the Kapusta Kow Palace for 6:15 p.m. and Help Sparky empty out the Tomcat Room of empties, Sparky and the whole Tomcat organization would be grateful.  If you can help, text Sparky and let him know that you will be there.

PURPLES IS SOLD Jerry and Morella have announced that as of April 1, 2016, new ownership is taking over Purples the Official Hang Out of the Windsor Tomcats.  A good bye party is being planned (nothing solidified at this time) but possibly mark off March 26 as the day to come and have a drink and say good bye.  Also not official, is that Ghost Crossing will be playing at the closing party. Attempts were made to contact Ghost Crossing bassist Hollywood, but he was not available for comment.

In ending, Matador was not in the line up and the Tomcats did not know he was not going to be there… according to some reports, he is in Mexico….are disciplinary roads going to be explored?

Hockey was very very good. Stealing the show, Hurricane, with his Tony Esposito goaltending style as he made save after save after save and that was just on Chevy.  The Beep Panthers took the night with scores of 10-8 and 11-7.

With Razor cancelling last minute, the Tomcats had to scramble to find a net minder. Shack(1) is no longer able to play goalie.

Danish(2) had been cancelled then asked to play but had made other plans. Chico(3) not playing, Matador (4) not playing, Hollywood (5) just coming back from Cuba, Green Giant (6) not playing Skippy(7) out with an injury for the year,  so the Tomcats had to call on Hurricane to fill the void and play net.

“We are at this time looking for another goalie, someone who can fill the spot when our goalies call in or go down and can’t play, we always have to look to the future and getting your 8th string goalie to play is not a good way to do business” stated G.M. Finner.

Tomcat Ogie has brought in a future Tomcat (Maybe a future goalie) Luca, came in at 9 pounds and 1 ounce. (he is a keeper) Mom, baby and Tomcat Ogie are all doing fine. Congrats to the Ogie Family.

Main Tomcat Tournament is coming up, and the Matador feels he is ready to play.  “I can hold my kid and fight a bull, I know we as the Matador Marlies can do well in this tournament” a beaming Matador stated.

Tournament this year is $25.  Payable to your Captain.  You get hockey, tee shirt and all the beer you can drink.  Pizza is $10 and will be served back at Purples after.  Pay The Turk for pizza.

I want to thank my fellow blogger, Chase de Poosee for writhing last weeks blog, I was called out on assignment and could not do the blog, but it is great to see Chase step up and write an excellent blog.  I know I would love to see some more work coming from him as the weeks of hockey continue on.

With the making of two full time Tomcats comes two cases of MGD.  Both Kamikaze and Tunzie will be bringing in a case of MGS (24 bottles) as per Tomcats rule 1, “Any new Tomcat will bring a case of MGD in bottles as his initiation case”. Welcome to the Windsor Tomcats Tunzie and Kamikaze.

SNOWPANTS

Year end golf tournament is June 17.  Snowpants is not doing anything with that right now, but is asking that guys mark that date in their calendars so that they know when it is and if they need to book the time off work, then they can beat their fellow co-worker to that day.  Party afterwards has been discussed and nothing has been set in stone.  Thought is to just have celebration at the course and guys can buy dinner their and just hang out.

It was old time hockey last night, no mini. Hurricane made his first start of the season in goal. “I love it when Hurricane goes in net”, an excited Chevy said. “Its a great chance for me to pad my stats.” Unfortunately, Chevy was on Hurricanes team. “I tried everything to get someone to switch teams with me. I even offered every player on Sunnys Spartans shares in Amys Helping Hands if they would switch. No one took the offer” stated a disappointed Chevy.

The other goalie for the night, stepping in for Razor, was the Matador. Razor called in, saying he had met some Tomcat groupies in a bar, and that they wanted to play with him. No Tomcat can refuse an offer like that.

The games were very exciting, with the Bravehearts taking the first. “We fell behind early, and it was too much to recover from, especially with Hurricane in the opposing goal. It took us half a game to get used to a lefty in the net “stated Cribzie. The second game was a different story. After a rousing motivational speech to his team, Sunny led them to to victory. Stellar goal tending from Matador proved the difference, although the Bravehearts defensive responsibilities could be questioned. “It was hard to look Hurricane in the eye after that game,” said a despondent Sparky. “We left him out to dry too often. He is not Ken Dryden, I can’t expect him to cover up all my defensive gaffs.

It was decided the rubber match would be two twenty minute periods. It was give and take take for the whole 40 minutes, neither team wanting to lose. The play, furious, with all players giving it everything they they had. As expected, it came down to the last minute,   the Bravehearts scoring with 10 seconds left to tie the game.

This is the part where history was made. “I don’t know whose idea it was,” says Beep, “but it was decided a shoot out should be had, involving only the goalies. ”

“It was the most exciting thing I have ever seen” stated Killer, “even topping watching my tomatoes grow.”

The shootout lasted only one round, with  the Matador emerging victorious. “I was deking all the way,” a beaming Matador said. “I saw Soupy score two goals on Hurricane that way, deking him out of his jock strap, gloves, pants and helmet. I knew I could do the same”.

Matador was named first star of the night for his solid goal tending and stepping up to the plate to fill in for Razor. Second star went to the Green Giant, also for volunteering to play goal if required. However, there was some concern that the Tomcat goal tending equipment would not fit him. Third star goes to the entire Spartans team, for not accepting Chevys bribe to play on their team, thereby preventing him from shooting  balls at Hurricanes head.

On a more serious note, friends and family are doing a” Celebration of Life for Franca” on Saturday March 05. The event will be held at Purples and you as a tomcat friend are asked to attend  ( if you knew her and want to). Dinner is to be served at 5. Let Stevo know if you intend to go, as Mo and Jerry need to know.

Draft night always brings Excitement by Harry Ballsonue

I want to touch on the mini last night and the teams and then go into the draft and the teams drafted.  Beep’s Honey Badgers took the mini last night, but hockey was very good all around.

Everyone is reminded not to dig for the ball on the goalie.

Two rules you should familiarize yourself with, even though the rule has been around for 25 years and even longer, if you think back to your days in grade school.  If the ball goes out and it is Black ball, then Black has to wait till White sets before play can start.

It is the same for after a goal is scored, the other team, has to set before the play can be started. The only time you do not have to wait and set is when it’s ‘Goalie’s Ball’  and the goalie can play it or put it in safety zone, but there you don’t have to wait for the other team to set.  I hope you understand it, appreciate it and can apply it.

Along with the 8 minute periods, it is also Stop time last minute of each period and there is 1 time out per game.  There is a face off after every goal scored.

Snowpants, would like everyone to know that the Tomcat Golf Tournament will be Friday June 17, 2016 this year, so book it off now. Very simple, no silly excuses. Snowpants, the Minister of Golf is looking at booking Sutton Creek for the prestigious event.
