Gents,

We are within 3 weeks of the return of Tomcat Hockey. Start of year gifts are ready, beer list is being figured out, Chevy has started his 5-mile-per-day running routine, etc.

What we now need is a group of Tomcats available on Wednesday September 14th around 6:30pm to come to the Kapusta to tidy it up for the season. This includes cleaning the playing surface, organizing the stage, the Tomcat room, and fixing boards, nets, etc. Who can help a brother out? Let Rocky know within the next week.

A younger Hollywood mopping up Kapusta Kow Floor ….” The floors have not been cleaned since the Bishop was here in 1988 “, Hollywood indicated.

Maybe the “Rocky” Mountains?

Here are some photos from Rocky’s recent trip to the mountains. Rocky, Roxy and the youngest Rockette enjoyed a week in Gatlinburg. Where have other Tomcats been this summer?

BTW – September 20th is less than a month away. Who’s ready for some Tomcat hockey?

Hurricane in the forecast?

This summer, The Hurricane solo hiked the triple of the Appalachian trail:

Mcafee knob, Dragon’s Tooth and Tinker Cliffs.

Word on the street says a nice cold one was consumed after each day of hiking.

See photos from Hurricane’s summer adventures.

Where have other Tomcats been this summer?

In a follow up to email last week…

It is that time of year where the Tomcats need to confirm commitment for the coming season. We plan to start on Tuesday September 20th at 6:30pm.

What Rocky needs from each of you by August 13th is a response indicating if your one of the following:

1.  Full-time (playing most weeks)

2.  Part-time (occasional play – every couple of weeks)

3.  Full-in/Tournament only (play on rare occasion or only for special events)

As always, we definitely need to confirm our goalies.

Since guys change their emails, let Rocky know if it looks like I missed anyone.

We will also ask for some help to do a pre-season hall clean up prior to September 20th.

Looking forward to another season!

If you are looking at doing some golfing this summer and find that summer is running out, there are three great dates of golf available to you. Chevy does an extraordinary job organizing the event.

Please text or email (szewczuk.stephen@gmail.com) Chevy and etransfer the above funds.

Current Roster of attendees include: (This is if you are not sure you want to go, but then see that La Bamba is going and you say to your self, “I want to hang with that guy.”)

GOING THIS YEAR

Chevy, Sunny, Bundura, Stevo, May Day, Hurricane, Sealion, Labamba (including Music). Bender, Hatchie, Snowpants, Lovie, Doc,.

IN ENDING

The good thing about these three days are that you have no hotel/motel costs. You sleep in your own bed each night doing the tour.

If you have never played Willow Ridge, it is fantastically done for the recreational golfer. The carts are new and the restaurants serves great food. It is only 50 minutes away, you get in a car with a few other guys and the cost of gas is negligible.

Erie Shores is a cute course that I know you will score well on. They use the water from Lake Erie and it is always in great shape. It may become a ‘go to’ course for you down the road.

Kingsville is Kingsville, Members there are cordial but once they find out you are a Windsor Tomcat you are excepted and don’t be too surprised to be signing a few autographs for the fine folks at Kingsville. If you are unsure of the three days, just know that the only golf course that has a waiting list, I Essex County for ‘becoming a member’ is Kingsville Golf and Country Club. That should tell you something.

You know Soupy is “movey” on the Kapusta floor, but did you know he was groovy as well? Soupy’s activity-packed summer included a recent visit to Pine Knob for the Grateful Dead concert. Soupy rocked it out to tunes such as ‘Friend of the Devil’ and ‘Stella Blue’ all while sporting a tie dye Tomcat shirt. Soupy always knows how to represent and bring a Tomcat vibe into all that he does. Totally rad job Soup!

Heads up:

Look out for an email asking for 2022-2023 season commitment. We start up on September 20th and hoping to have great turn out each week all season long. Start of the year gifts are being ordered. Also look out or a volunteer opportunity to help prepare the Kapusta for the season. More to come.

Keep the summer updates coming. Where have you been sportin’ Tomcat gear?

Eighth Place

In Detroit, a 41-year-old man got stuck and drowned in two feet of water after squeezing, head first, through an 18-inch-wide sewer grate to retrieve his car keys.

Seventh Place

A 49-year-old San Francisco stockbroker, who “totally zoned out when he ran”, accidentally jogged off a 100-foot high cliff on his daily run.

Sixth Place

While at the beach, Daniel Jones, 21, dug an 8 foot hole for protection from the wind and had been sitting in a beach chair at the bottom when it collapsed, burying him beneath 5 feet of sand. People on the beach used their hands and shovels trying to get him out but could not reach him. It took rescue workers using heavy equipment almost an hour to free him. Jones was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Fifth Place

Santiago Alvarado, 24, was killed as he fell through the ceiling of a bicycle shop he was burglarizing. Death was caused when the long flashlight he had placed in his mouth to keep his hands free rammed into the base of his skull as he hit the floor.

Fourth Place

Sylvester Briddell, Jr., 26, was killed as he won a bet with friends who said he would not put a revolver loaded with four bullets into his mouth and pull the trigger.

Third Place

After stepping around a marked police patrol car parked at the front door, a man walked into H&J Leather & Firearms intent on robbing the store. The shop was full of customers and a uniformed officer was standing at the counter. Upon seeing the officer, the would-be robber announced a hold-up and fired a few wild shots from a target pistol. The officer and a clerk promptly returned fire, and several customers also drew their guns and fired The robber was pronounced dead at the scene by Paramedics. Crime scene investigators located 47 expended cartridge cases in the shop. The subsequent autopsy revealed 23 gunshot wounds. Ballistics identified rounds from 7 different weapons. No one else was hurt.

HONORABLE MENTION

Paul Stiller, 47, and his wife Bonnie were bored just driving around at 2 A.M. so they lit a quarter stick of dynamite to toss out of the window to see what would happen. Apparently they failed to notice that the window was closed.

RUNNER UP

Kerry Bingham had been drinking with several friends when one of them said they knew a person who had bungee-jumped from a local bridge in the middle of traffic. The conversation grew more excited, and at least 10 men trooped along the walkway of the bridge at 4:30 AM. Upon arrival at the midpoint of the bridge, they discovered that no one had brought a bungee rope. Bingham, who had continued drinking, volunteered and pointed out that a coil of lineman’s cable lay nearby. They secured one end around Bingham’s leg and then tied the other to the bridge. His fall lasted 40 feet before the cable tightened and tore his foot off at the ankle. He miraculously survived his fall into the icy water and was rescued by two nearby fishermen. Bingham’s foot was never located.

AND THE WINNER IS…..

Zookeeper Friedrich Riesfeldt (Paderborn, Germany) fed his constipated elephant 22 doses of animal laxative and more than a bushel of berries, figs, and prunes before the plugged-up pachyderm finally got relief. Investigators say ill-fated Friedrich, 46, was attempting to give the ailing elephant an olive oil enema when the relieved beast unloaded. The sheer force of the elephant’s unexpected defecation knocked Mr. Riesfeldt to the ground where he struck his head on a rock as the elephant continued to evacuate 200 pounds of dung on top of him. It seems to be just one of those freak accidents which proves … “Shit happens.”

IT ALWAYS SEEMS IMPORTANT TO THANK THESE PEOPLE FOR REMOVING THEMSELVES FROM THE GENE POOL ….

In a golf outing that is not a Tomcat event, but out of 40 players 27 players are either present day Tomcats or past Tomcats. Everyone however are friends of the Tomcatts and of course everyone has a nickname.

The Winners were Tomcat Scully and his partner All Rise (also known as ‘Kuckles’) “It was an incredible day. The event is well established and being a Tomcat comes with so many other perks and benefits, just a great day I really don’t know what else to say.” Stated Champion Scully.

Patton of Royal 47 took good care to ensure all Tomcats were lined up and ready to go

Chevy and The Hurricane finished in 2nd, “Always a brides mate, this is my second time finishing second, last time I was with Snowpants” Stated the Hurricane.

Third place went to one time Tomcat franchise player Crispy and his partner Finner. Fourth: Bagz and Stubby, 5th Soupy and Jingles, Six Sunny and his brother Apollo, 7: Bubbles and the Turk. 8 Sea Lion and Little Bird, 9th Lovie and Stevo, 10: Bundura and Moose, 11) Bender and Gibby. 12) Big Easy and Hollywood, 13) Cribzie and May Day, 14) Sheep Dog and Bronco, 15 Murph and Boom Boom, 16 Bucko and Hatchie, 17) Sparky and La Bamba 18) Big Poppa and the Stomper, 19) The Atomic Rooster and Snowpants and at 20 Red Squirrel and the Howler.

Vice Chairmen May Day, “Teams always seem to have parity, the teams you think will do well, sometimes do not, it is fun event.  One idea for next year is to have everyone show up at the course 1/2 an hour before the first tee of time and pull names out of a hat, this way you do not know who you might get as a partner or in your foursome. Yes there might be some very strong teams, but that is the way life works sometimes”.

Franchise Tomcat Crispy, “I would like to have Stevo as my partner next year.” Tomcat standout Bucko, “You know who I would like to have as my partner next year…..the Big Easy.”

Hollywood and Sparky smile along “ it’s just a great great day for a golf game,” stated Sparky

“I find that everyone just wants to be there and be with everyone, the dinner back at the Essex Legion was a fun way to be with the guys.” Hatchie

Handsomer Tomcats you will not find anywhere.

Tomcat’s own Sheep Dog, Alumni member Sea Lion and Little Bird and Bronco. “Enjoying a Belle River Pepsi on the course is one of life’s simple pleasures.” Sea Lion

“This is my first time in this event, wow, can’t believe the crowds following us out there, can’t believe I’m with all these Tomcats and I won a Ghost Crossing tee shirt, what a day, what a day.” Murph.

What I saw was just a great bunch of guys enjoying themselves, Tomcats who will see each other come September 20, 2022, first night of Tomcat Hockey…and of course you have training camp in Battle Creek September 13-16.

Some guys will see each other at the Cougar Bush tour, Chevy’s 3 day event, August 22-23-24. Chevy told me he still has room, so if you are interested contact Chevy.

Stevo wanted me to mention that he thanks everyone for participating and if they can, to respond to the survey that was sent to the participants.

Summertime Blues

“Well, I’m gonna raise a fuss, I’m gonna raise a holler…”

Did you know?

While Eddie Cochran released the original Summertimes Blues song back in 1959, it has been covered by many artists since, including Rocky’s beloved band Rush. Check our Rush’s album of covers called Feedback. They also covered songs from the The Who, The Yardbirds and Buffalo Springfield.

Speaking of summer, what have Tomcats been up to? We know one Tomcat has been up to 20 feet in the air or so. The Terror recently helped out Rocky by removing some trees from his property. Did anyone know The Terror is capable of scaling trees and chopping them down? Who needs an off season training program when you work this hard? Terror is set to return to Tomcat hockey this fall.

These trees are getting “Terrorized”

Tomcat summer party?

Rocky is considering a gathering of Tomcats and others on a Saturday before the summer ends. He is trying to coordinate a busy summer schedule to see if something can be worked out. Stay tuned…

Still waiting to hear about (and see pictures) from various Tomcat’s adventures this summer. Send them to Rocky so we can share with Tomcat Nation.

September is right around the corner, so add some training runs to compliment your 12oz curl regimen.

“Best defence man ever, best hockey player ever, Bobby Orr, put her there, a close second, The Rake.” Don Cherry

I am hearing that the Rake may be done. A knee injury is preventing him from playing golf this summer in the Tomcat Open, a non Tomcat Event that features pretty much all Tomcats, the Kobassa Open and he cancelled a charity event, that has him and several Tomcats baking cookies, muffins, brownies, breads and cupcakes, called ‘BAKE WITH THE RAKE’. Tomcat management is silent on a possible Rake Retirement announcement, but I have heard that this announcement should be coming soon, stand by for more in weeks to come.

Tomcats have also resigned 10Carat, to a two year deal, but his start date with the Tomcats this year may not be until end of October early November, due to some VISA issues and his homeland not wanting him to play in Canada.

Stevo went on a golf trip to Woodstock Ontario, with two alumni Tomcats and a Tomcat blast from the Past the Original Doc. Who use to ref the tournaments. “When he reffed, there was no bullshit, everyone played according to the rules and regs of Tomcat tournament ball Hockey, you did not want to mess with Doc, he would have crushed you.” Stated May Day.

Bundura, Doc, Stevo and the Sea Lion, “Boy oh boy we had a great time, we played, Otterville Golf Course, Innerkip Highlands and Fire Rock in Komaka, Innerkip is my favourite, but Komaka is fun to say, say it, Komoka,..Komoka, Komoka, See! Stated The Sea Lion.

Two short stories I heard, that I thought was cute:

Number 1

Saturday morning I got up early, quietly dressed, made my lunch, and slipped quietly into the garage. I hooked up the boat up to the van and proceeded to back out into a torrential downpour. The wind was blowing 50mph, so I pulled back into the garage, turned on the radio, and discovered that the weather would be bad all day.

I went back into the house, quietly undressed, and slipped back into bed. I cuddled up to my wife’s back; now with a different anticipation, and whispered, “The weather out there is terrible.” My loving wife of 5 years replied, “And, can you believe my stupid husband is out fishing in that?”

Number 2

After retiring, I went to the Social Security office to apply for Social Security. The woman behind the counter asked me for my driver’s license to verify my age.

I looked in my pockets and realized I had left my wallet at home. I told the woman that I was very sorry, but I would have to go home and come back later.

The woman said, ‘Unbutton your shirt’. So I opened my shirt revealing my curly silver hair.

She said, ‘That silver hair on your chest is proof enough for me’ and she processed my Social Security application.

When I got home, I excitedly told my wife about my experience at the Social Security office.

She said, ‘You should have dropped your pants. You might have gotten disability too.’

Hey is it just me, or is Rocky one of the most handsomest Tomcats you have ever seen? Thanks for reading, I’m Ophelia Butts

Another fantastic day of Tomcat golf was played on Saturday June 18, 2022. The weather and the group of golfers could not be any better. St. Felix, the Patrol Saint of the Windsor Tomcats kept the temperature at a perfect 22 c and a full sun shone all day on the Tomcats. If you missed the day, boy you missed a great day of golf.

Snowpants organized a group photo of the players playing in this years event.

There was a three place tie for first using the Calloway Scoring System. Big Poppa, Soupy and Bubbles, but with a third hole retro-recreation, Big Poppa was deemed the winner.

“I don’t really know what to say, I am over come with emotion. This is truly a great day for my family and me.” Big Poppa said, while holding back tears.

With the Calloway system being used, there were three first place finishers with a net or 73. 4 then finish with 75, 8 at 76, 2 at 77 and 3 at 78.

Jeff at Sutton Creek also did a nice thing by showing a few pictures of Snowpants and placing them on the golf cart.

Snowpants as always did a fantastic job ensuring everyone had a great day and a prize. “I really do want to thank those who have come through and have provided donations to the tournament. Beside the companies I contacted, players within the Tomcat organization stepped up and gave me some fantastic prizes. Thank you gentleman!”. Stated an elated Snowpants.

Thanks to those that played this year.

Tomcats Forever!

I have to tell you, Sunny was the best looking guy out there. Thanks for reading, I’m Ophelia Butts.
