Not quite sure if we can call it a ‘short’ bench with 2 spares a side because play certainly didn’t seem to slow down much between games; but I did hear a few players wishing for another body….
The Chico Chargers featuring the stellar scoring duo of Soupy and Sparky took the first game; whilst the Bender Bulldogs featuring a newly ‘we can build it better’ Rocky (sporting a sweet knee brace with ‘flame’ decals) and high scoring return/first game for the Matador (more on that in a minute) took the second. Man; it was like a completely different team and approach for the Bulldogs; who were completely unstoppable in the rematch and really hammered the other side into submission.
Definite highlight of the night was a sweet-sweet deke by the Matador on Chico. You know it was ‘bad’ when Sparky turned around and whispered: ‘here’s that jock strap you lost’ to poor Chico. Coach Sealion chimed in as well; ‘defensively we let our goalie down. I mean how can you leave Skippy back there alone as a D man? The lad has no stick skills; shot; scoring or real playmaking ability. If it wasn’t for the numerous shots he blocked (Rake would be proud); the score may have been even more lopsided. Good to see his cardio improving and nice to see he can play well as a D’
Better highlight of the night was summed up perfectly by the Matador afterwards: ‘I really don’t care about the hockey; it’s about the camaraderie with the guys afterwards’. Yes; I swear the Matador said ‘camaraderie’. Who would have thought the big man with the sweet ‘Stevo’ like dekes had such a big heart?
Next week Sparky’s seeking a few good Tomcats to come early and clean out the empties. If you can help; show that Tomcat spirit and come early to lend a hand. As Rocky says; ‘those empties really add up and keep the beer flowing’
Finally; let Rocky know if your ‘in’ for next week
