Harry Palm Press Breaking News Report
Those faithful readers of the Windsor Tomcats blogs have had only 70% of the Tomcat bloggers submit their blog, pretty sad and disappointing if you really think of it. But I must carry on and bring you the latest on one your goalies, Skippy. Last we heard Skippy, Danish and Wilson were toiling in an obscure summer league while preparing to impress the Tomcats management for the upcoming season. Both The Danish and Skippy know there is a possible opening in net this year with the possibility of Razor not signing. Skippy may have truly seen the real difference in playing in a “hack” league in the summer and the fine well run oiled machine of the Tomcats. Those in the know are aware Skippy plays on Mondays in a un-named league (“We can’t be promoting others leagues while the Tomcats play has been halted for summer contract bonuses, well earned breaks and rehabilitation” one insider stated). Just recently in the Monday league the Skipster was traded!! In the Tomcats world there are there any trades? I was able to track down some Tomcats ‘insiders’, ” Skippy knows what is involved, going in. There are warnings to players about playing in other leagues and Skippy should be commended, (along with Danish and Wilson) for sharpening their hockey skills”.
Currently some confusion may rest at exactly what number Skippy sits on the depth charts with the Tomcats, but not in question is Skippy does play for the Tomcats, gets plenty of games in, and has been called upon late many times to suit up. Sources have speculated the goalie depth chart looks like a scenerio of Razor, Falcon, Bearcat, then Skippy; which may be the whole problem with the summer winding down of whether Razor will or won’t come back. Fans weren’t happy when the summer St Felix was released, but the question of Razor’s return has still to be answered. Adding to the turmoil is the unspoken fact the Tomcats may well be flush with other good goalies in their system like Hollywood, The Matador and an Asian superstar, Kato, waiting in the wing. Further doubt rests on whether Bearcat is even able to commit full time if Razor should leave. Insiders have whispered Bearcat may have been spoken to ahead of Skippy, as Bearcat has the most seniority with the Tomcats. Bearcat indeed is a good choice, but is he able to go full time, does he still suffer from the occasional knee problem which some speculate have kept him out of the line up at times, or can a Bearcat/Skippy show take place where the long time tender takes the younger rookie under his wing. Lets also not forget about Danish who has done a great job filling in on short notice and has shown he can play with the Tomcats.
One rumour we can put to rest is that Danish has turned down a very lucrative contract with the Hawaiin HellDogs to remain in a Tomcat jersey. I spoke with Danish after a Monday game and he had the following reaction to Skippy’s trade and his own future with the Tomcats, “First Skippy can suck an egg, he had a decent team in front of him already and I got stuck with a swiss cheese defense which is making me look bad and inflating my G.A.A into the stratosphere. Secondly, I did turn down the job offer in Hawaii because I know I wouldn’t be able to find a team who welcomed me with such open arms as the Tomcats”.
Maybe all the goalie confusion will be all for naught as Razor, who undoubtedly has been following all the blogs with a silent grin, returns for another year and further cements his name as one of the greatest Tomcats players to lace up a pair of goalie shoes. One thing is for certain if the Tomcats trade Skippy it will be done professionally, not like the Monday league, there, there were no phone calls from Mangement or his Captain, nope – the whole thing was simply written on a blog board for all players to see……remember, this is just a Monday night league in the summer not the Windsor Tomcats.
